Winning weekend in store for the busiest calendar day of racing

Preparation on the Roodee is thoroughly underway as we look forward to another winning day at Chester Racecourse this weekend and the Midsummer Meeting. This Saturday looks set to be the busiest day of the year for British racecourses with up to 130,000 racegoers expected across seven meetings, taking in the second day of the King George VI Weekend at Ascot as well as Lingfield Park, Newcastle, Newmarket, Salisbury, York and of course Chester. Gates will open to an expectant crowd on Saturday 29th July at 11.30am.

With seven races on the card, the day is set to be taken by storm as we begin with the Stella Artois Novice Median Auction Stakes at 2pm and the final race of the day; The Stella Artois Cidre Handicap Stakes will conclude the racing action at 5.25pm. As well as the home turf action, racing from around the country will be shown on the big screens and the home crowd will be anticipating a strong performance from Chester winner of the Arkle Finance Cheshire Oaks and Investec Oaks at Epsom; Enable, in the infamous King George VI at Ascot.

In addition to all the action on the flat, Capital North West & North Wales are in attendance for the second time this month, this time with Presenters Rachael Rhodes and Josh Collin and the Capital Street Stars. The Capital team will be taking over the bar on the Paddock Lawn Paddock, playing music and DJ sets to the crowds throughout the afternoon. In addition, racegoers will have the chance to enter a competition to win Fusion Festival tickets and Winning Post Enclosure badges to the next Chester race meeting; MBNA Family Funday on Sunday 6 August.  Anyone with a Tatts ticket or above can join in the fun. Visit the team in the paddock, enjoy some live entertainment and enter the competition!

Out on the Open Course, there will be free activities for our youngest racegoers, with a climbing wall in operation throughout the afternoon, crafts for kids to make their very own Chester Racecourse crown, a circus skills workshop and there’s also a face painter on hand! Children aged 17 are free to attend, whilst tickets for adults on the Open Course are just £12. Parking is also available on the day for just £8 per car. All kids activities are provided free of charge.

The weather looks set to deliver over the weekend, with sunshine forecast on Saturday. Those still deciding on weekend plans should consider a day at the races! The Open Course provides a great space for families to get together with a picnic, a gazebo and enjoy some summer sunshine – a great start to the summer holidays. Tickets for adults start at just £12 on the Open Course and you can park up for just £8 per car.

St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice will be looking for charitable donations from racegoers as they exit the course as they conduct a bucket collection at the exit gates. Jane Thompson of St Luke’s said

“We are looking forward to our fundraising opportunity this weekend. Staff and volunteers are excited about the opportunity to engage with the race goers at the end of what we are sure will be a fabulous day.   Whilst hospice care at St Luke’s Hospice is without charge to those we look after, we need to raise £8,600 each and every day to continue supporting our patients and their families who are facing life threatening illness.”
