Race horses won’t be the only equine stars on display at Chester’s Family Fun Day this Sunday as the racecourse prepares to welcome one of the most famous horses from stage and film, War Horse, Joey.
The theatre production, which took the West End and big screen by storm has just opened in the North West at The Lowry Theatre, Salford and runs until September 20. Equine star from the show, Joey, will be in the Parade Ring prior to racing, giving families an opportunity to see the spectacular puppet up close. Later in the day, Joey will also make a presentation to the winners of The War Horse at the Lowry Salford Handicap Stakes.
Out on the open course, there will be plenty of entertainment for all the family. Donkey rides will take many back to their own childhoods whilst for the more adventurous, a climbing wall, land zorbs and an assault course are sure to appeal. A family Day wouldn’t be a family day without customary face painting and balloons and if weather permits, picnicking is encouraged in the Open Course enclosure.
Preparations are well and truly underway for the racecourse’s only Sunday fixture in the calendar and there is an added incentive for a family day out too as Children aged 16 and under go free and 2-for-1 tickets apply in the course’s Tattersalls (£30 for 2) and County Enclosures (£38 for 2)*. Tickets for The Open Course cost £12 per person.
On the day, gates open at 8am on the Open Course. The first race of the day gets underway at 2pm. For further information and to book tickets, visit www.chester-races.com
