The Boodles Roodee Challenge Cup
The British summer made an appearance for the semi-finals of the Boodles Roodee Challenge Cup on Friday 8th September. The perfect weather for polo, visitors flocked to Chester Polo Club to see the four teams battle it out. Picnics in hand, general admission guests came fully prepared for a fun day out.
The independent retailers received a fantastic response, offering everything from delicious cupcakes from Mama Cupcakes to luxury dog accessories from Hugo and Otto and polo themed gifts from Roxon’s Polo.
Guests in the Hospitality Marquee were welcomed with a glass of Laurent-Perrier and were invited to see collections from Boodles and Patek Philippe before taking their seats for a welcome from Polo Commentator Karl Ude-Martinez.
Once settled, guests were served a three-course lunch by catering and event creatives, Horseradish. The menu included pressed, slowly cooked ham hock, served with a lightly pickled vegetable salad, followed by roast chicken with herb gremolata with a cassoulet of haricot beans, brassicas, and root vegetables. To finish there was a classic glazed lemon tart, topped with mascarpone cream, broken meringue and berry compote.
After lunch, guests were welcomed onto the decking to see the Semi-Finals. Two thrilling games lead to a triumph for team Controlled Solution Group and team Laurent-Perrier. Between chukkas, guests were welcomed onto the pitch to take part in the polo tradition of stomping the divots.
Unfortunately due to bad weather the Finals of the Roodee Challenge Cup were canceled for the health and safety of players.
But this didn’t stop visitors from having fun. Families came down to Chester Polo Club with an impressive collection of picnics and picnic blankets and took part in some of the free activities. Live music sets from Chester performers Alx Green and Chris Barnes went down well with visitors, as did the free face painting and traditional lawn games. Visiting from Manchester, the Square Pegs horse trailer was well received by little ones, who took part in mask making and t-shirt screen printing. Local photo booth, Old Bean was also extremely popular, with groups striking a pose in the green horse trailer.
