About Merseyrail

Merseyrail is an urban network of vital importance to the transport infrastructure of Liverpool and its environs, operating on the Wirral and Northern Lines within Merseyside. It is one of the most punctual and reliable railway networks in the UK, with consistently high scores for customer satisfaction,

Merseyrail runs almost 800 trains per day and will carry over 100,000 passengers on an average week day. There are 66 stations on the network, four of which are underground in the city centre, giving easy access to work, study, shopping and leisure.

The Merseyrail network is one of the most intensively used networks in the UK, running on 75 route miles of track. Six and a half miles are underground and Merseyrail services go through the original Mersey railway tunnel, which opened in 1886. Outer terminuses are at Southport, Ormskirk, Kirkby and Hunts Cross on the Northern Line and New Brighton, West Kirby, Chester and Ellesmere Port on the Wirral Line.

Merseyrail operate a regular interval timetable and trains are every 15 minutes and 5 minutes in the city centre.  

Merseyrail Raceday Travel for £5.10

Leave the car at home and get to the races by train with Merseyrail. Services run frequently between Chester and Liverpool throughout the day. Enjoy unlimited off-peak travel on the Merseyrail network for just £5.10 with a Day Saver or £11 for a Family Ticket (up to two adults and three children aged 5 -15).

Passengers travelling from stations between Hooton or Ellesmere Port to Chester should buy a One Zone Day Saver for £3.80 from their local station before travelling.
