How to get here

By car

Chester Racecourse is located conveniently in the heart of the City of Chester and easily reachable via car and well-connected transport links. For Satelite Navigation systems our postcode is CH1 2LY. The M53, M56, M6 and A483 are all in close proximity to Chester providing excellent links from Liverpool, Manchester, North Wales and the south of England.

On racedays, the Racecourse is signed from all the major routes into Chester and parking is available on site on the Open Course for £8 per car, payable in advance or on the day. 

If you are collecting tickets from the Box Office on raceday, please be advised that you must collect your tickets before you enter the car park. Should you arrive at the car park prior to collecting your tickets, you will be required to pay for car parking and an Open Course ticket for the driver and any accompanying adult passengers. 

The roads surrounding the Racecourse are subject to road closures on raceday, typically in operation between12.30pm and 7.30pm on day-time meetings. Information on affected roads and further detail around times can be found here

By train

The nearest train station to the racecourse is Chester where trains run every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes in the evening between Liverpool City Centre stations and Chester. Mainline trains also come into this station. A Chester City / Rail Circular bus service is in place to take you from the train station to the Racecourse if you don’t fancy the short walk for a small charge.

Merseyrail Day Saver Ticket
Make as many train journeys as you want throughout the day with a Merseyrail all zone Day Saver. Valid from 09:30, Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays on the Merseyrail network. Often even cheaper than a standard return ticket, it’s the easiest and cheapest way to get to the races! For details on local rail times into Chester, visit the Merseyrail website.

Merseyrail Family Ticket
Up to two adults and three children can enjoy unlimited travel on the Merseyrail network with a £10 Family ticket.  Valid for one day from 9.30am Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays on the Merseyrail network. 

By bus

Park and Ride

Cheshire West and Chester Council operates four Park and Ride sites around the City at Boughton Heath (off the A41 Whitchurch Road - nearest postcode CH3 5QD), Sealand Road (on the A548 opposite the car dealerships - nearest postcode CH1 4LD), Upton (Zoo - nearest postcode CH2 4BA) and Wrexham Road (off the A483 opposite Chester Business Park - nearest postcode CH1 2LS). Please note, postcodes are the nearest approximate postcodes for location purposes, as these sites are not postal addresses.

Buses operate at the following times

  • Monday to Friday: every 12 minutes between 7am and 7pm
  • Saturdays: every 12 minutes between 8am and 7pm
  • Sundays and Bank Holidays: every 15 minutes between 9.30am and 6pm 

Parking is free for Park and Ride customers. Tickets cost £2.00 (return) per adult and up to two children can travel free if accompanied by an adult.
