1539 set to unveil new lavish look

Chester Racecourse’s Restaurant 1539 will re-open next week following a £500,000 refurbishment with a new Claridge’s-trained head chef, new Chester Grosvenor- trainer general manager and a new, makeover, designed for contemporary dining and drinking.

The new interior takes inspiration from a sophisticated gentleman’s club with deep button booths and log burning fire within the new bar and library area. Vibrant rich colours, bold prints and textures have been mixed with vintage furnishings with custom design pieces allowing guests to continually discover new elements of design within the interior.  One thing will remain unchanged with the venue continuing to provide stunning views across the racecourse.

The new menu, designed by head chef, Ian Penn, offers customers several twists on classic British favourites alongside dishes inspired by flavours from across the globe. The menu features some classic grills and fresh seafood, as well as small plates and a new express menu, which includes a glass of wine for time-stretched diners at £9.95, available until 6pm daily.  Weekends promise something extra special with the introduction of a new brunch menu.

Penn joins Restaurant 1539 with more than 25 years’ fine dining experience at venues including Mayfair’s 5-star Claridge’s Hotel, the Park Lane Hilton, London and the Royal Automobile Club.  He will be joined by new General Manager, André Sievers, who joins from the Bells of Peover following senior roles at venues across Cheshire, which include the Chester Grosvenor.

The revamped venue will feature two new areas to create the most unique backdrop to dine and drink.  Upstairs within the venue, a perfect backdrop has been created for weekends, providing a sultry setting with resident DJ and waiter service for drinks.

Richard Thomas, Chief Executive of Chester Race Company, said: “The North West is a hotbed for quality eateries and competition is high across the leisure sector in Cheshire.  Restaurant 1539 has been trading for six years and it’s really exciting that this venue is entering a new stage; we’re confident that the new-look 1539 will provide something new to the Cheshire leisure scene and we are really looking forward to showcasing many weeks of hard work to customers, old and new.”

Restaurant 1539 will re-open on Monday 28 April.  The restaurant can be accessed via a new entrance off Nuns Road.  Ample free car parking is available for diners at the Racecourse.  To celebrate the refurbishment, customers dining within the first week of opening will enjoy 50% off their food bill when booked in advance*.  To make a booking, please contact 01244 304611
